Gift Baskets…

I think I've been giving "Food Gifts & Baskets" for a thousand years! Well, probably since the early eighty's..... When we purchased our first home on the Jersey shore, for the first time we were living in a "Child-Friendly development.  The first day we moved in my neighbor, Joanne, came knocking with the most beautiful basket I had ever seen.  It was filled with all kinds of snacks and homemade food, along with fresh baked cookies and bread.  She was also thoughtful enough to put in a list of all the important phone numbers including hers and all the other neighbors. She tied together … [Read more...]

Spring brings Snow…..

Today is the First Day of Spring....almost.......Three hours and four minutes to be exact......and what did Mother Nature give us here in Pennsylvania? Tulips? daffodils? Crocus heads peering up out of the ground? Do you see the bunnies running and playing with the squirrels? How about the grass starting to go from winter brown to Spring green? No?......me neither....... Mother Nature has a very weird sense of humor this year......just when I finally got to see the grass and my three little fur-babies were able to run and frolic........this happened..... Winter Blues…..

Well........I've written letters to everyone I could come up with...even the Pope... I've made promises that I know I won't keep, to those one should never make promises to.........but the snow just won't go away! It's been one of those weeks......cabin fever is high..... but the idea of wrestling with thermals, three sweatshirts, four scarves and two pairs of flannel pajama pants, boots, six pairs of socks, two hats and nine pairs of gloves.....might as well stay inside! Even the family of wild turkeys we have living here have had it! Elvis, our little Yorkie, has … [Read more...]

Here in Pennsylvania we just can't keep up with the snow! We plow and by time the Love of my Life puts the truck away, its snowing again! I saw him yesterday throw his hands up and yell "I quit!" This was 4:30 in the morning......I am sure the neighbors thought he must be getting stir-crazy! When He came inside he asked what I was planning for my day....a cup of Earl Grey and a blueberry muffin! and I am hitting the road in search of all that Pennsylvania has to teach me.....He kissed me good bye and said "Well, have a good trip don't forget to write.." So where am I going … [Read more...]

Now What?…..

So, the tree is down, lights packed away, ornaments lovingly wrapped up till next year.......Resolutions made, and promises we hope to keep.....and Spring just around the corner! Albeit, a wide corner but coming none the less! Today, New Year’s Day, my husband and I looked at each other and said "Now what?"......The house is quiet and smells, well, clean! No sugar cookies baking, or glazed ham and sweet potatoes cooking.  No twinkling lights...... the formal dining table that just last week hosted over twenty-five people is now quietly resting.  It’s all polished, and set with its … [Read more...]

Country Christmas Table….

This week would have been my Grandmother Anna's 122nd. Birthday! Can you imagine living that long and seeing the changes our world has gone through? She was the daughter of English & Irish immigrants. The art of cooking, baking and home-making was her legacy. She taught me when I was very young, how to crochet, sew and appreciate family heirlooms. And with every piece there was a story which I now try to always pass down to my grandchildren. On my grandmothers birthday, my mom and I would walk to her home with a big bouquet of flowers and a box of homemade fudge - her favorite. When we … [Read more...]
