Spring Book Club Brunch….

So, Winter has left and the club is itching to get back into the swing of things with our reading frenzy! So this week is our Spring Book Club Brunch Get-Together……the book?

The Swans of Fifth Avenue” by Melanie Benjamin

The storyline:
“A novel about New York’s “Swans” of the 1950s — and the scandalous, headline-making and enthralling friendship between literary legend Truman Capote and peerless socialite Babe Paley. Of all the glamorous stars of New York high society, none blazes brighter than Babe Paley. Her flawless face regularly graces the pages of Vogue, and she is celebrated and adored for her ineffable style and exquisite taste, especially among her friends — the alluring socialite Swans Slim Keith, C. Z. Guest, Gloria Guinness and Pamela Churchill. By all appearances, Babe has it all: money, beauty, glamour, jewels, influential friends, a prestigious husband and gorgeous homes. But beneath this elegantly composed exterior dwells a passionate woman — a woman desperately longing for true love and connection… Enter Truman Capote…. This diminutive golden-haired genius with a larger-than-life personality explodes onto the scene, setting Babe and her circle of Swans aflutter. Through Babe, Truman gains an unlikely entrée into the enviable lives of Manhattan’s elite, along with unparalleled access to the scandal and gossip of Babe’s powerful circle. Sure of the loyalty of the man she calls “True Heart,” Babe never imagines the destruction Truman will leave in his wake. But once a storyteller, always a storyteller — even when the stories aren’t his to tell. Truman’s fame is at its peak when such notable celebrities as Frank and Mia Sinatra, Lauren Bacall and Rose Kennedy converge on his glittering Black and White Ball. But all too soon, he’ll ignite a literary scandal whose repercussions echo through the years…..”

Although the geese and Guinea hens are cackling in the back and the deer are grazing on the ridge next to the wood pile, New York City with all its glamour and gossipy glitz, is sitting right here with Mr. Capote, drinking Mimosa’s…at least until the Sun goes down on Call Mountain…..

Happy reading!

Country Hugs,

  1. That is beautiful. I want to use that fabric. Is it fabric or the fat squares.

    • Hi Alisha..
Im so glad you like them! This is Waverly fabric, my local Walmart is now carrying an entire line of Waverly which means I don’t have to make a 52 mile trip to JoAnn’s! I don’t know the name of the pattern, I just pick what I like…next time I’m in Walmart I’ll look on the bolt to see if there is a name. Maybe Walmart.com might have it? I usually get a yard of each pattern. One yard will yield me 4 napkins and about eight salad plates, and five dinner plates depending on the pattern. This fabric was only $3.97 so I bought extra for other projects.

      • I also check their site. I did see something similiar, but was unsure, because it had brown on it. The one you have is red, black white with gray. That is I asked for the fabric name. I will check all the local Walmart. If find out the name please, please, please let me know.

  2. What size are the plates, and can I use the 10′ glass plates. If so how much fabric should I use for six plates.
I hope I can find this fabric.

  3. I went to Walmart to find that fabric, no luck. Does it have a name, maybe I can find it online.

  4. Those napkins are outstanding. Did they come from Walmart also. Your blogs and pics are great. If only I can find the same items that you post. Can you please post where to buy and the names of the patterns that you are using, it would be greatly appreciated.

  5. Your table is so pretty and I love a good book. I’m in a book club too and it’s so enjoyable! The red and black on your table is a wonderful combination.

I’d love for you to come by and visit a lovely home tour I’m featuring today. 🙂

  6. Thank you for sharing this at Thoughts of Home on Thursday.
    I love the fabric-
    way to go WalMart!
