Room Makeover

I love the month of October…..the colors, smells and the baking!

But this October, its inside project time…… why not start with the busiest room in our house……. The Dining room….AKA….party room /Sunday dinner room / Christmas wrapping station / 2000 piece puzzle room / grandkids cake decorating room….sigh….. yes this room is the busiest in the house! Although its a long walk from the kitchen, we realized when we built the house that we needed a large room and a large table! On an average Sunday supper there are eleven of us!

I’m hoping it will be done for Thanksgiving……My plan is Dark Grey on top of the chair-rail and pure white underneath and ceiling also pure white….crown moulding, picture moulding boxes under the chair rail, and glass shelves to replace the wooden one in the hutches….Since I can’t find drapes that I can honestly say I love I will make them and recover the chairs with a coordinating fabric…. I’m thinking Toile for the drapes and a coordinating plaid for the chairs…I’m also keeping my eye out for a rug for under the table …..

I love this soft muted feel don’t you?….

Here are some fabric inspirations’ I have found……

I love the grey’s with Cherry furniture…..I’m also looking for two wing chairs that I can redo for both ends of the table….and I have an old sideboard that I am redoing in the cherry to match the table…..we bought the table in pieces! couldn’t find a table big enough (it’s ten and a half feet long!) so we purchased the legs and the table top and my husband built it! I just found another set of matching legs online and they will go on the old sideboard….I have a lot of “Items” I have collected over the years that I really need to repurpose……so many will find a home here in the “Gathering Room”…how does that sound? a better description……

FY! – My husband, the builder says Next Week we start! stay tuned…….

  1. Cant wait to see what your living room will look like for the holidays!!!!

  2. Hey Lois,
I like the stripe for the chairs and the toile or the abstract floral pattern for the drapes but I hope your are keeping the shears too just to keep the room bright. Your poor hubby, the builder.

    • me too! the stripe is bold enough for the chairs….and yes I would keep the sheers, it softens all the grey….sigh…now we need to get it done!
