Pennsylvania Roads…

So what new places did you visit this summer? My "Pennsylvania Roads" Summer Bucket List kind of fell to the wayside ..... all my good intentions kind of slipped into the 2015 "I'll do it next week" bucket list....and that bucket is now overflowing.....sigh....oh well there is always 2016!  Well, although I didn't get to Martha's Vineyard or the Biltmore in Ashville, I did get to enjoy what, for us here in Northeast Pennsylvania,  consider a  "Local" gem....so my Road led me to Jim Thorpe, our beautiful County seat and just a ten minute  ride up another mountain from PineRidge Hills! as a … [Read more...]

Autumn Leaves…

Yes I know....it's still August....but I so want Autumn leaves rustling under my feet and the aroma of hickory burning in the fireplace, a colorful autumn wreath hanging on the front door, a pot of Beef Stew simmering on the stove with smashed potatoes and applesauce sitting patiently on the sideboard and Pumpkin pie lathered in freshly made whip cream with a hint of vanilla and Brandy.....Oh, I just realized it's 83 degrees outside and I am headed down to the lake to cool off....well, its only a matter of time so we might as well start gearing up for Autumn even though summer is in full swing … [Read more...]

Autumn Wedding

Is there anything more beautiful than an "Autumn wedding"? well, maybe just weddings in general.....but I am just a tad biased towards Autumn. I was married in September and now my oldest daughter is doing the same! September 26th to be exact. Her first wedding was a fairytale....traditional, planned for a very long time and with every detail adhered to. Sadly, even fairytales come to an end. Not ever thinking she would fall in love again, a chance meeting has brought us to a new chapter in our family saga and his name is Joey! So what kind of wedding does a transplanted Jersey Girl with an … [Read more...]

Where’s Lois?

The "Divine Ms. B".....(My BFF from down the road) keeps me on my blogging toes, well, usually.....she is like a personal trainer for Blogland. I'll get a phone call or an email asking "Where's Lois?" "No Blogging today?" "Stop slacking!"....etc..etc... But the last two weeks she was on vacation so I kinda slept in....now she is back and so I need to find my groove again! But this time I was ahead of her.  This is what I emailed her this morning: ".....FYI....no blogging today....thought I'd keep you abreast of any situations here on the mountain.....!" WHY YOU ASK?....... Good … [Read more...]

Childrens’ Picnic….

Here in Northeast Pennsylvania our children are now into their fifth week of Summer Vacation!  I know......you can see the toll already taken on the Moms....so what can you do to keep the energy flowing and productive? Give them full rein to run a muck! How do you reel them back in? host a Children's' Picnic under the old Birch trees..... .... the faster they run out of steam the faster you can get that ten minute breather ..... yes I remember those ten minute breaks.  I used to live for them! With three daughters my summers were calculated in Blinks of an Eye not days or weeks.  When … [Read more...]

Legend of the traveling book…..

Have you ever owned a book, the subject matter isn't important, that you hold as a prized possession? I have and still do.  Maybe its the writer in me because I have such a love affair with books that make most people look upon as, well, strange to say the least! I believe its because, along with a vivid imagination a book can take you places that in your wildest dreams could never materialize, and yet afterwards you know you've been there.... I've had this Love Affair since I was old enough to read.....I remember when I would have to leave my friends for the summer and head to our home … [Read more...]

Weekend Brunch….

Well, its Saturday morning and we got a call last night that our "City Friends" need a weekend in the country! So it looks like summer has un-officially started. A weekend brunch came to mind. The guest bedroom is done and waiting, the deck is clean and the menu is planned and simple. This is going to be a hassle-free, fun-filled weekend for catching up on all the goings on in New York City. I remember those days, running to catch a train along with five thousand other people, the heat coming up from the concrete, having to walk up to the 9th floor cause the elevator was out.....hmmmm, no - … [Read more...]

Postcards from Paris…

Postcards from Paris......While looking for an envelope this morning I found an old leatherbound photo - book that was tucked away in the bottom of the cabinet.  When I reached for it, realizing it wasn't the package of envelopes I was hastily looking for, I pushed it to the side knowing for sure my envelopes must be hidden behind the books....they were......after addressing the few that I needed and stamping them and running up the road to the mailbox....which I made just in time as the mailman came slowly up the hill.  He stopped and chatted, collected the mail and handed me two envelopes … [Read more...]

Bookshelves and Books….

I have a secret....come closer....here it is......I am addicted to Books and the Bookshelves that hold them! Books of any kind, whether it be travel, mysteries, cooking, gardening, decorating......sigh.....yup! I'm addicted! And as any book enthusiast will tell you, they have to have a special place - hence bookshelves. Next, is where I would love to do my reading...hence the above picture! Can you imagine just swinging with a warm breeze sweeping across your face, a cool lemonade within reach and of course, not a sound except the birds in the tree above...sigh...ok I just gave myself the … [Read more...]

Country Farm Stands….

Time to start visiting your country farm stands....Summer brings out the best in what the farmers market and orchards have to offer......living in the country has its advantages when it comes to fresh - everything! The blueberries and strawberries are best in mid-summer. When it comes to Apples and vegetables we have two local farms that we visit weekly.  We also have several Farmers Markets in our area....but did you know.....not everything is as it seems.  Farm stands are big business now a days.  especially within city limits.  When you shop at a farm stand remember that New England … [Read more...]
