Autumn Leaves…

Yes I know....it's still August....but I so want Autumn leaves rustling under my feet and the aroma of hickory burning in the fireplace, a colorful autumn wreath hanging on the front door, a pot of Beef Stew simmering on the stove with smashed potatoes and applesauce sitting patiently on the sideboard and Pumpkin pie lathered in freshly made whip cream with a hint of vanilla and Brandy.....Oh, I just realized it's 83 degrees outside and I am headed down to the lake to cool off....well, its only a matter of time so we might as well start gearing up for Autumn even though summer is in full swing … [Read more...]

Autumn Wedding

Is there anything more beautiful than an "Autumn wedding"? well, maybe just weddings in general.....but I am just a tad biased towards Autumn. I was married in September and now my oldest daughter is doing the same! September 26th to be exact. Her first wedding was a fairytale....traditional, planned for a very long time and with every detail adhered to. Sadly, even fairytales come to an end. Not ever thinking she would fall in love again, a chance meeting has brought us to a new chapter in our family saga and his name is Joey! So what kind of wedding does a transplanted Jersey Girl with an … [Read more...]

Childrens’ Picnic….

Here in Northeast Pennsylvania our children are now into their fifth week of Summer Vacation!  I know......you can see the toll already taken on the Moms....so what can you do to keep the energy flowing and productive? Give them full rein to run a muck! How do you reel them back in? host a Children's' Picnic under the old Birch trees..... .... the faster they run out of steam the faster you can get that ten minute breather ..... yes I remember those ten minute breaks.  I used to live for them! With three daughters my summers were calculated in Blinks of an Eye not days or weeks.  When … [Read more...]

Bookshelves and Books….

I have a secret....come closer....here it is......I am addicted to Books and the Bookshelves that hold them! Books of any kind, whether it be travel, mysteries, cooking, gardening, decorating......sigh.....yup! I'm addicted! And as any book enthusiast will tell you, they have to have a special place - hence bookshelves. Next, is where I would love to do my reading...hence the above picture! Can you imagine just swinging with a warm breeze sweeping across your face, a cool lemonade within reach and of course, not a sound except the birds in the tree above...sigh...ok I just gave myself the … [Read more...]

Country Farm Stands….

Time to start visiting your country farm stands....Summer brings out the best in what the farmers market and orchards have to offer......living in the country has its advantages when it comes to fresh - everything! The blueberries and strawberries are best in mid-summer. When it comes to Apples and vegetables we have two local farms that we visit weekly.  We also have several Farmers Markets in our area....but did you know.....not everything is as it seems.  Farm stands are big business now a days.  especially within city limits.  When you shop at a farm stand remember that New England … [Read more...]

For just a few dollars I can actually match my plates to my linens.  What did we ever do before Mod Podge? Today I am sharing our book club lunch, unfortunately only two of us could make it, with summer starting schedules are in over-drive! The book this month is a "Poolside / Lakeside" reader.....Nantucket by Nan Rossiter. Here is a little intro from the New York times..... " A tender, moving story of rekindled passion, set amidst the … [Read more...]

Potted Herb Wagon…

finally got my herbs planted on Sunday.....this year instead of planting in the beds along the back of the house, or putting them directly in pots that sat on the deck, I decided to bring my wagon up onto the deck and put it to work!  My husband made this wagon for me several years ago, and I love it! this year it will hold the pots of herbs that I use everyday in my cooking.  Basil, Oregano, Parsley...I couldn't find French Tarragon or Rosemary so I'm not completely done with my Potted Herb Wagon.....I planted several varieties of tomatoes including San Marzano, I am also going to plant … [Read more...]

Deck Gardening

Now that Spring has arrived and is not leaving the mountain, I'm gearing up for my deck gardening to start.  I will be planting some Perennials in the beds around the house but my deck will hold some of my favorite flowers and of course my herbs. I'm lucky that my deck is right off my breakfast room so its far more convenient to grab some Rosemary or Basil just steps from the stove rather than going down the steps into a garden. Besides the wildlife would be enjoying the fruits of my labor too easily! The Daffodils are finally in bloom and I'm waiting for the Tulips to bloom.... Last … [Read more...]

Country Picnics…….

Hello everyone! Did you have a great weekend? Here in Northern Pennsylvania the weather was beautiful! And today is 70 degrees.  My kind of weather.....Everyone is outside, wheel-barrows are filled with dirt, mulch and new plants for the garden.  Neighbors are waving to each other and gossiping over rakes and hoes.  I always wonder why it takes my husband so long to mow the front of the house in early Spring, then I realized he stops to talk to everyone who passes by either by pickup, car or horse! We were busy starting to get ready for Spring to really hit us! We started taking inventory of … [Read more...]
