What if you woke up today….

……What if you woke up today with only what you thanked God for yesterday?……………..

country-lane-in-the-summer

I saw those words this morning in an email a friend sent me, it was 5:45 am and my husband had just left for work.  I was finishing my cup of tea and last nights crossword puzzle while going through my emails……

………something to really think about…..

but first I have to get the laundry started and marinade the roast for supper tonight.  I have ironing to do and the vacuum is screaming my name in five languages…..

………but after that I’m going to give this some thought……

I decided to get the curtains out that need to be pressed and readied for hanging along with several tablecloths that are going to be donated, cut two bunnies out from an antique fabric I’ve had for a thousand years and organized the kitchen drawers………..

……..hmmm, what did I ask God for yesterday?……..I’m always asking for the grass to turn green again……and always hoping the birds come back to the feeders during the winter………

Four phone calls, two trays of cookies in the oven, laundry all folded and my Stars & Stripes quilt almost done, I decided to sit down with a cup of tea…..it was 3:00pm.  Put the roast on to cook, cut up potatoes and made a salad.  It’s now 4:00 and the three dogs need to go out – but its raining so their raincoats have to go on and the “Too Big” umbrella is tucked under one arm as we step begrudgingly off the deck…….

………..I don’t think I asked God for this snow and rain…….

Finally after three arguments with the squirrels, a near miss with the hens and having to jump in the slushy snow….the boys were ready to go back home…..leashes off, coats hung up to dry and toweled down…….I finally sat at the kitchen table and said …

…..God I’m getting too old for this! Especially in the rain……

I laughed out loud as if that would give my statement some leverage, as if God would have to answer the question posed…. I waited….

……..but I guess God has things to do also so I started setting the table when suddenly a sickening feeling came over me – I realized that I had left the gate unlocked and Duncan, the middle child of the three dogs, had managed to slip thru the glass slider and would be headed out onto the deck and down the steps……I screamed….please God don’t let him make it to the stairs…….…….I nearly feel over him when he stopped short of the glass door! I then remembered Duncan hates the rain and being the slightest bit wet!

………Had it not been for the rain Duncan might be in Cincinnati by now…

With that “Daddy” came through the front door and all three boys ran, tails wagging, barking up a storm, and I’m sure Oliver was telling on his brother…I then laid out the entire melodrama that engulfed us for the last half hour….I then looked at my husband and asked….

………What did you thank God for yesterday?……..

while trying to do a hundred things at the same time he uttered, without skipping a beat……

…………”You“………

As I grabbed Duncan and hugged him, and started a mental note of what to thank God for, I remembered to thank him for the rain…….but I guess he already knew that……

….I’m sure if God had emailed me back it would have sounded like this…….

………This is your life. Do what you love, and do it often. If you don’t like something change it. If you don’t like your job, quit.  If you don’t have enough time, stop watching TV.  If you are looking for the LOVE OF YOUR LIFE, stop, They will be waiting for you when you START DOING THINGS YOU LOVE.  Stop over analyzing.  LIFE IS SIMPLE.  All emotions are BEAUTIFUL, when you eat, appreciate every last bite.  OPEN YOUR MIND, and arms and heart to new things and people, we are united in our differences.  Ask the next person you see what their passion is, and share your inspiring dream with them.  TRAVEL OFTEN; getting lost will help you find yourself.  SOME opportunities only come once, seize them.  LIFE is about the people you meet, and the things you create with them so go out and START CREATING.  Live your dream, and share your passion.  Life is short…….Always remember to look up and say Thank you………

……….Now God, about that diet we discussed…….

Country Hugs,

Lois
