Well, its Saturday morning and we got a call last night that our “City Friends” need a weekend in the country! So it looks like summer has un-officially started. A weekend brunch came to mind. The guest bedroom is done and waiting, the deck is clean and the menu is planned and simple. This is going to be a hassle-free, fun-filled weekend for catching up on all the goings on in New York City. I remember those days, running to catch a train along with five thousand other people, the heat coming up from the concrete, having to walk up to the 9th floor cause the elevator was out…..hmmmm, no – don’t miss it!
So let’s see what sounds and tastes great! To chill down the heat we have to go with watermelon, BBQ and of course Long Island Ice Tea’s – my favorite! For inspiration I went surfing!
Don’t these burgers look fabulous? Triple-Chile Burger with Grilled Potato Wedges from Williams-Sonoma
The Barefoot Contessa’s recipe for Long Island Ice Tea’s are the best – but be careful they pack a kick!
And anything with Watermelon is a go! From BHG.com – Watermelon sorbet…….
And then we need to save room for dessert….Caramelized Banana Cream Pie…….
Well, my city pals should be here soon….everything is ready, Frank Sinatra is playing, we’ve moved the table to the grass under the River Birches, strung up some lights over the branches – trying to capture the ambiance of the photo above, and set up the hammock…
We promised to send them back home relaxed and ready for another hectic week in the city….along with a picnic basket filled with homemade jam and apple pie….
Ahhhhh….Summer Days in the country…….
