Gifts anyone?

So what do you do when a gift you gave to someone ends up on their table at a garage sale?……..

Do you point it out to your friend or just move on to the housewares she is selling?……

(Like she would know what a salad spinner is!)

Do you immediately think back to that long shopping day when you lovingly picked out that gift? all the time spent on where she would place it? how it would majestically sit on the buffet at Christmas dinner? how guests would all try to steal that lovely gift you, her dearest and closest friend( Well maybe not that close) bestowed upon her?

The antique milk glass pitcher that you wrapped in an old Battenberg dinner napkin, centered in an antique handmade basket tied with a burlap bow? with a tin hanging tag? And a bouquet of hand picked wild flowers tied with the matching burlap ribbon……Nice right? Who wouldn’t love receiving a gift like that?      I certainly would……..

What to do…What to do…….

Maybe I should accidentally push it off the table and watch it crash into a million tiny bits of glass that could never be swept up and hope that her brand new car will go over a shard and the tire will blow out and now she will be late for work and have to forgo the dinner party you both were invited to – to which you were both bringing dessert and now yours will be the sole contender?……..

Or, should I embarrass her and wait until there is a crowd and announce how I remember the pitcher being used for, well, you get the idea….! How about the time her husband threw it at her! And who could forget her teenage son trying to pawn it……

I could steal it…….no, not my style…..the pitcher that is…..hmmmmmm……….how to handle this? Well, I could just give her a piece of my mind! Never buy her a gift again…..

….*sigh*……

But I degress………

Would I ever do that?……..

Then, my conscience got the better of me…….how could I ever think like that? So big deal she doesn’t like the pitcher…….get over it!

As my other BFF who accompanied me on this garage sale trek passed the pitcher she smirked….I asked her what that was for?  “Don’t you think that’s a lovely antique? and I bet it was a gift that she now has no use for!”

She said: ” Yes, Lois your right! It is a lovely antique pitcher…….I remember when I gave it to you!

…..oh, now I remember……..it came all wrapped up in a basket………

Moral to the story:

“keep a log on what you re-gift………..and don’t visit a friends garage sale!!!!

Happy Thursday……
