Cozy folkzy Guestroom

Last week I shared a few photo’s of one of two guestrooms we have here….the yellow room is geared towards my granddaughter….yellow, pink and hunter green…and what I like to call Shabby Chic meets Cozy folkzy…..Yup, new word around here!

untitledI started collecting folk art over thirty years ago, I found a wonderful artist/woodworker duo, Pat & Tim Rodeghier who own a shop  in Michigan…The Plum Tree….I think they have evolved into furniture making now.  I have so many of their pieces (All of the pictures below) and although “Country” is not as popular as it was in the 1980’s, there is such a special place in my heart for it.  no matter what style I have decorated with over the years I always find a place for my “Country treasures“……

Their new home is in the yellow guestroom.  The shelf they sit on now was made by my dad many years ago.  It used to be in the office but its been relocated! We lost my dad last year so its kind of bittersweet.

The bookcases were made by my husband, the builder, and hail from our first home on the Jersey shore….as you can see I don’t like to get rid of things.  In my mind everything holds a memory or two and deserves a place somewhere in the present.

the comforter and dust ruffle is vintage Ralph Lauren – a score on EBay a few years ago.  The throw pillows are vintage also.  The green wagon I got online and my Boyd’s Bears are also a collection I’ve had since I lived in New York…I won’t dare tell you how many I have…well let’s just say that to be displayed together they would need their own bedroom! LOL!  they just seemed to multiply over the years….my grandchildren grew up with them, and many times I found them and the bears cuddled up under the blankets on a sleepover!

I just got a twin size sheet in the Sophie/Brooke pattern to match the comforter so I think I may make a set of curtains and a cushion for the little bench that, yes you guessed it was made by my husband! The little rocking chair in the corner was mine when I was a baby, as you can see saving stuff is in my DNA….the rocker is on my “Redo” list, I am going to sand it all the way down to the bare wood and stain it…..its over fifty years old so I’m sure there are a gazillion coats of paint on it. I am also thinking of stenciling the headboard and footboard of the sleigh bed…….what do you think?

I’m looking for a small wing chair to put in the corner, will make a great reading spot.  The view from the window is of the whole ridge that overlooks Beltzville State Park.

I hope you enjoyed your visit! And please don’t feed the bears – they can get so finicky after a visit……..

Happy Thursday!
